Step:

  1. Pour boiling water over oats, add butter, cover and let stand 20 minutes

  2. Combine remaining ingredients into a large bowl

  3. Add oatmeal mixture to flour/egg/sugar mixture and stir well

  4. Pour mixture into 9x13 pan, and bake for 30 minutes

  5. While cake is baking, begin making frosting

  6. Combine all frosting ingredients into a bowl and stir

  7. While cake is still warm, spread frosting on top, then place under broiler for 5 minutes to toast coconut

  1. 1 cup instant oats
  2. 1 stick butter
  3. 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  4. 1 cup granulated sugar
  5. 1 cup brown sugar
  6. 2 eggs
  7. 1 1/2 cups flour
  8. 1 tsp baking soda
  9. 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  10. 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  11. Frosting
  12. 6 tsp butter
  13. 1/2 cup white sugar
  14. 1/2 tsp vanilla
  15. 1/4 cup canned milk
  16. 1/2 cup coconut
  17. 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans
