Step:

  1. Blanch tomatoes, this is optional but it renders beautiful red colour to Rasam. Ground tomatoes to smooth puree

  2. Grind coriander leaves, garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, pepper to coarse paste

  3. Heat oil or ghee in a pan.Splutter mustard seeds

  4. Add urad dal and saute until golden brown

  5. Add curry leaves, red chilies and ground paste. Saute for few seconds.

  6. Add turmeric and mix well over low heat. Saute until aromat.

  7. Add tomato puree and mix well

  8. Add salt, mix well and cook for 1 min

  9. Add water and mix well. Bring to boil

  10. Simmer cover and cook for 8-10 minutes. Switch off

  11. Add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Serve hot with rice

  1. 275 g Tomatoes
  2. 5 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
  3. 7 Garlic Cloves
  4. 1 inch Ginger Chopped
  5. 2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  6. 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  7. 1-2 tbsp Oil or Ghee
  8. 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  9. 1/8 teaspoon Hing/ Asafoetida
  10. 1/2 teaspoon Urad Dal (Skinned black gram lentils)
  11. 8-10 Curry Leaves
  12. 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  13. 1-2 dry Red Chilies De- seeded
  14. 1.5 Cups Water
  15. 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
  16. 2 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
