Step:

  1. Heat butter and oil in large skillet over MED/MED-HIGH heat.  Add beef and brown, breaking apart into crumbles as it cooks, about 5 minutes.  Drain.

  2. Add onion and bell pepper to same skillet and cook 2-3 minutes, until soft.  Add garlic and cook 30 seconds or so, until fragrant.  Add beef back to the skillet and add tomato paste.  Stir well.

  3. Stir together sauce ingredients and add to the skillet.

  4. Cook over MED heat for 10-15 minutes, until mixture has thickened to your liking.  Remove from heat and serve over toasted buns. (Do not skip toasting the buns or you'll have a super sloppy joe that's impossible to eat)

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon butter, 1 teaspoon olive oil
  2. 1 lb ground beef
  3. 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
  4. 1/2 and onion, finely diced
  5. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  6. 2 heaping tablespoons tomato paste
  7. Sauce ingredients
  8. 2/3 cup ketchup
  9. 1/3 cup water, with 1 tablespoon flour whisked in
  10. 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  11. 1 tablespoon brown sugar (I usually add a little more)
  12. 1 tablespoon chili powder
  13. 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  14. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  15. 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  16. 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more for extra kick)
  17. Dash hot sauce
