Step:

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mix resembles dry cornmeal.

  2. Add enough milk to form soft dough that cleans side of bowl.

  3. Knead cheese into dough 1 to 2 minutes.

  4. Roll dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into squares using knife or pizza cutter. Brush top with egg; sprinkle with poppyseeds. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 450°F for 10 minutes.

  3. 1/2 tsp baking soda
  4. 1 tsp salt
  5. 1/3 cup shortening
  6. 1/2 cup buttermilk
  7. 1 cup grated swiss cheese ( 4 oz.)
  8. 1 egg
  9. 2 tbsp poppyseeds
